A crash this morning (Tuesday) has left a woman fighting for her life.
A black Land Rover Defender and a blue and white DAF HGV collided at about 8.37am on the A61 at the junction with Smith Lane, east of Hutton Bank.
The Land Rover driver, a woman in her 30s from the County Durham area, was airlifted to hospital with life threatening injuries, where she remains.
The lorry driver was a man in his 60s from the Lincolnshire area.
The road was closed for a number of hours to allow for collision investigation work and recovery to take place. The road has reopened.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews carried out an emergency extrication of the casualty trapped mechanically within the vehicle using spreaders, stabilisation and e-draulic cutting equipment.
“The casualty was transported to hospital via air ambulance.”
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We are appealing to anybody who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to police, or anyone who may have dashcam footage of the collision or moments leading up to it, including either of the vehicles involved prior to the collision, to come forward.”
