The Constant Wife

Photograph: Mihaela Bodlovic

1927. Constance is a very unhappy woman. “Nonsense” says her mother “she eats well, sleeps well, dresses well and she’s losing weight. No woman can be unhappy in those circumstances.” Constance is the perfect wife and mother, and her husband is as devoted to her as he is to his mistress, who just happens to be her best friend. Adapted by Olivier Award-winner Laura Wade (Home, I’m Darling; TV’s Rivals) from Somerset Maugham’s glittering comedy.

Holocaust Memorial Day Civic Event 2026

On behalf of City of York Council, we invite you to join us in marking Holocaust Memorial Day, 2026. Holocaust Memorial Day is now an established act of commemoration when people from all over the world come together to remember the destruction and devastation caused by the Holocaust and more recent genocides and persecution.

York will be embracing the theme ‘Bridging Generations’ through a programme that seeks to commemorate the past, explore the continued persecutions of the present and encourage positive actions that will make a difference in the future. The event seeks to serve as a reminder that the responsibility of remembrance doesn’t end with survivors – it lives on through their children, their grandchildren and through all of us. This theme encourages us all to engage actively with the past – to listen, to learn and to carry those lessons forward.
