Watch: ‘Scenes in York tonight!’ Fans dance in the streets after England get through to the final

Fans were dancing in the street last night after England made it through to their first tournament final since 1966.

Waving flags and shirts over their heads, the fans took to York city centre to celebrate the team’s historic 2-1 semi-final victory over Denmark in Euro 2020.

Choruses of Sweet Caroline and Three Lions rang out as police kept a watchful eye close by.

On his YorkMix Radio late show, David Dunning spoke to two York fans as they travelled back from Wembley after watching their heroes go through to their first European final.

Chris Allen said: “Absolutely fantastic, unbelievable result. The atmosphere was incredible – the game of a lifetime, still celebrating!

“Absolutely fantastic party atmosphere, hopefully we’ll just go one step further.”

And Beki Palmer-Bunting, who runs the Robin Hood Caravan Park in Slingsby, said from her car journey home: “An absolutely amazing night! One of the children is asleep already.

“The relief of that second goal, it’s been a really mixed bag of emotions all night.”

Jordan Lennon Leetham said: “The atmosphere was amazing, one minute you are devastated and conceding, then we scored and the stadium erupted

At full time I was crying my eyes out, fans were singing, dancing, crying, everyone was emotional,

Best match I have ever been to, back for the final on Sunday, where we all believe, England can create history again”
