Updated: Woman seriously injured after being hit by car in York

A woman was seriously hurt in a crash while she was crossing a road in Acomb today (Tuesday).

Emergency services were called to the incident on School Street at the junction with Beaconsfield Street at about 10.55am.

A grey Honda Jazz collided with a woman pedestrian as she was crossing the road.

The woman suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

One of the two Yorkshire Air Ambulance helicopters landed on Acomb Green in York as part of the emergency response.

Adam Davies took a video of it leaving at around noon. He told YorkMix he arrived just as the doors were closing.

A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received an emergency call at 10.45am on Tuesday morning to report a collision between a car and pedestrian on the junction of Beaconsfield Street and School Street in Acomb. 

“An ambulance, rapid response vehicle and air ambulance were dispatched to the scene and one patient was conveyed to Leeds General Infirmary by road.”

The male driver of the Honda was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.

Officers investigating the collision are asking anyone who witnessed the incident and hasn’t already spoken to police to come forward.

They particularly want to speak to a DPD delivery driver and anyone else in the area who came to the aid of the womn pedestrian.
