Video: A brand new beach club has opened in York city centre – with sun, sand and even a boat

Here’s a first tour of the YO1 Beach Club.

Bringing a taste of the Med – or a bit of Brid, depending on your viewpoint – to the heart of the city, the club boasts deckchairs, a kiosk, food and drink – and lots of sand.

York town crier Ben Fry declared the new attraction open at midday today (Thursday) – and lots of families spent the day enjoying hanging out on a beach just yards from the River Ouse.

The YO1 Beach Club is in Tower Gardens, next to Skeldergate Bridge.

It includes indoor and outdoor eating areas, with food cooked on a barbecue. There’s breakfast served till 11am, burger and chips (from £8.50), fish and chips (£8.95) and pizza (£8-£8.50).

Kids can play in the sand and climb aboard a bright yellow boat.

The YO1 Beach Club is produced by Coopers Marquees, a family-run, York-based business which is now the tenth largest marquee company in the UK.
