Two men charged with carrying an offensive weapon after police stop car in York

Two men were arrested and charged after their car was stopped by police in York.

Officers from the York West Neighbourhood Policing Team spotted a vehicle with no insurance in Chapelfields on 15 February.

They seized it and began an investigation.

Their enquiries revealed that two men linked to the vehicle had been seen carrying a hatchet shortly beforehand.

Both were arrested and interviewed on Sunday (22 February).

A 46-year-old man has since been charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

A second man, aged 30, has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon, driving without insurance and driving otherwise in accordance with a licence.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “This is a positive result for the community, tackling harmful weapons and removing unsafe vehicles from the streets.”
