Two men were arrested and charged after their car was stopped by police in York.
Officers from the York West Neighbourhood Policing Team spotted a vehicle with no insurance in Chapelfields on 15 February.
They seized it and began an investigation.
Their enquiries revealed that two men linked to the vehicle had been seen carrying a hatchet shortly beforehand.
Both were arrested and interviewed on Sunday (22 February).
A 46-year-old man has since been charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
A second man, aged 30, has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon, driving without insurance and driving otherwise in accordance with a licence.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “This is a positive result for the community, tackling harmful weapons and removing unsafe vehicles from the streets.”
