TV series with episode filmed in York about to hit our screens

The Piano returns to Channel 4 this weekend – and one of the episodes was filmed at York Station.

The fourth series will begin airing on Sunday (12 July), with presenters Claudia Winkleman and Mika returning alongside a raft of new musical mentors.

York doesn’t feature in the first two episodes, which are set in Birmingham and London.

But details haven’t been released for the other episodes, so the earliest York could feature is 26 July.

Claudia and Mika were seen filming the hit series at York Station back in March, along with world-renowned Japanese jazz composer and pianist Hiromi.

The nation’s favourite instrument takes centre stage once more, with another round of amateur pianists performing on public pianos in major UK train stations across the UK, sharing their musical stories with passers-by.

“I was curious to see how people would play with such a love and passion for piano, which is what drew me to become a mentor on series four of The Piano,” said Hiromi.

“The piano is my best friend and teacher, and that connection to music is something very personal to me. At York Station, I hope to see the pure joy of playing the piano.”

Speaking on filming The Piano, Claudia said, “It’s a phenomenal show. We are so grateful that it seems to have a place in people’s heart.

“Also all the people who work in the stations, they’re so lovely to us. They make space, they let us put a piano in the middle of their station so we have to say an enormous thank you to them.”

This series will reach the crescendo that is the final concert at Birmingham Symphony Hall, widely considered one of the finest concert halls in the world.

The Piano will begin airing its fourth series on Sunday 12 July, on Channel 4 at 9pm.
