Tree deliberately set on fire in York

Fire crews were called out after a tree was deliberately set on fire in York.

Firefighters from Acomb were called to Cornwall Drive at 8.57pm last night (Sunday).

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “They extinguished a tree on fire located on a sports field.

“Crews used two knapsack sprayers at this incident. The cause of the fire was deliberate.”

Elsewhere, in another busy night for firefighters, they tackled:

  • a combine harvester fire which spread to 10 sq m of a field in Ampleforth
  • a large field stubble field fire measuring 100m by 250m in Saxton near Tadcaster
  • vegetation measuring 10m by 5m on fire at Old Byland
  • a grass fire measuring 20m by 20m at Newland, Selby
  • an unattended camp fire in a wooded area off Kingsway North, York.
