They were called to the River Derwent near Kirkham Abbey, between York and Malton at 5.14pm.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A crew from York and the animal rescue crew from Malton attended a report of a bull that had become stuck in the silt in a river.
Incident location
“Crews used water rescue equipment to assess the river and locate the best egress for the bull before using strops, a winch and crew power to lift the bull out of the water.
“The bull was left in the hands of the farmer and appeared to be unharmed.”
