Updated: Four hurt in serious crash on A19 near York

There was a serious crash on the A19 south of York early today (Tuesday).

It was outside the Olivia Swan pub at Deighton. A number of people have been taken to hospital.

One witness said multiple emergency service vehicles were called to the incident at about 5am.

Another reported seeing a red car in the bushes on the side of the road with the front badly damaged.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from York and Acomb responded to reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision.

“Four occupants were out on arrival, with varying injuries. Some of the occupants were taken to hospital via road ambulance.

“Crews made the scene safe by using small tools to disconnect the batteries and an environmental pack to contain an oil spill.”

The crash has now been cleared, but York-bound traffic between Deighton and Crockey Hill is still slow.
