Top York attraction set to mark major birthday – and it needs your help

This summer, one of York’s longest standing visitor attractions, The York Dungeon, is celebrating its 40th birthday – and they need your help.

It’s been nearly four decades of scares, and the Dungeon is getting ready to mark this incredible milestone on Friday 3 July.

Now owned and operated by Merlin, the Dungeon was originally opened on the 3 July 1986 by Sir Fred Pontin, a founder of the Kunick Leisure Group. It was the second of the Dungeon attractions to open, following the London Dungeon in 1974.

In readiness for their birthday celebrations, they are asking for your help.

They are looking to hear from anybody who worked there on the opening day or was part of the original team that opened and operated the York Dungeon back in 1986, to join them for a grand opening at 10am on the morning of Friday 3 July.

Or do you perhaps have any interesting stories about working at the Dungeon over the years; they may be funny, they may be scary, they may be both! If you do, they’d love to hear from you.

To share your stories, or if you worked there back when the York Dungeon first opened in 1986, please send an email to [email protected].
