Three fires started deliberately in York overnight – including one near nature reserve

It’s been another night of fire-starting in York.

Fire crews were called out to three fires started deliberately in the city last night (Tuesday).

York firefighters were called to a small rubbish fire near the St Nicholas Nature Reserve at 6.03pm.

They put it out using a knapsack sprayer. A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “It is believed it was started deliberately.”

At 8.51pm, firefighters were called to a fire in the open at Rawdon Avenue.

“This was a fire to a large amount of general waste,” the spokesperson said. “Crews used a knapsack sprayer and a shovel to extinguish the fire. The cause was deliberate.”

Then Acomb firefighters were called to put out a wheelie bin on fire at Alcuin Avenue at 9.02pm.

It’s the second time in days that there have been three fires started deliberately in one night in York.
