A POP-UP bar is set to return to York city centre in the coming weeks.
Thor’s Tipi would open in Parliament Street on Friday, May 22 and run until Sunday, September 6 if York Council approves its application to return for another year.
Amanda Monaghan, director of Fabler which runs Thor’s, said they could not wait to be back in their spiritual home serving up cocktails, live music and new events this year.
The director added they had applied for planning permission for their usual spot outside Barclays Bank until 2031 to help secure the venue’s future.
Approval of the plans would see the Viking-inspired venue return to Parliament Street for another year after first opening there in 2021 and becoming a yearly fixture since.
The company is also due to put on a pop-up tent in the gardens of The Milner, off Station Road from Friday, May 9.
Fabler, the company behind Thor’s along with Dusk and House of Trembling Madness, is run by Mrs Monaghan and her husband Richard who both live in York.
Mrs Monaghan told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) said they had gotten creative with their Parliament Street venue this year.
She added new additions this year included Themed Fridays where music from the same decade would be paired with matching cocktails.
The director said: “We’ve got a new look tipi and more going on to keep us entertained, along with a new food vendor this year.
“We’ll be doing different themes for music and cocktails on Themed Fridays, for instance serving up snowballs on a 1970s night.
“We’re going for planning permission for five years this year which is more cost effective and saves time compared to putting in an application every year.
“This summer we want to bring the fun back big time, it’s really important we have events like this to bring people into the city centre especially at the moment.”
Thor’s first put on a pop-up bar for York’s Christmas Market in 2015.
It now puts on three venues a year in York in Parliament Street, at The Milner and in Museum Gardens during the winter.
A tipi is set to open in Leeds City Square on Thursday, May 14.
There are also plans for winter venues in Leeds, Lincoln and London, along with the one in York, later this year.
Seperately, the company has said it is working on exciting plans for a new project.
Details remain under wraps and will be revealed in due course.
