The YorkMix Hero Awards are back for 2026 . Once again we’ve teamed up with Yorkshire Profiles to give you the chance to thank someone who makes life better where you live.
This year we’ll be recognising our heroes in a lavish award ceremony at York Racecourse on 5th June 2026.
We’re now asking you to nominate someone you know in one of our Hero Award categories. A panel of judges will then meet and shortlisted finalists will be announced later on this year.

Best Boss Award

For a leader, an inspiration, or an all round good egg, who makes coming to work a pleasure.
The Imagination Award
with The Puzzling World of Professor Kettlestring
For a someone who uses their creativity, from drawing and painting to content creation or perhaps someone had an idea to turn around a business or re-invent a charity event.
Volunteer of the Year
For someone who’s volunteering work has made a huge difference to people or their community.
Charity Fundraiser of the Year Award
For someone who, rain or shine, gives their time to ensuring the financial needs of a charity are met.
Outstanding Bravery Award
with The Drovers Arms
For someone who has demonstrated or continues to demonstrate incredible acts of bravery.
“In The Face of Adversity” Award
For someone who has fallen on hard times, faced illness or other hardship yet has beaten the odds and become a shining example to others.
Educator of the Year Award
with Total Foodservice
For a teacher, class room assistant, nursery keyworker or anyone else who goes above and beyond to help educate, and support, others.
Incredible Child Award
For a child who has achieved something beyond their years or made a difference in their community.
Outstanding Talent Award
with Sunshine Day Nursery
For a person of any age who has an outstanding talent in any field.
Neighbour of the Year Award
with Hayley Owen
For an incredible person who helps or gives their time to the benefit of everyone else within their immediate local area.
The Parent or Guardian of the Year Award
For a person who truly is a cut above the rest, who makes every day special and is always there to help.
The Ultimate Hero Award
This award will be open for voting the night of the awards ceremony.

- Nominations are only valid for people living within the YorkMix Radio transmission area
- The judging panel’s decision is final
- Finalists, selected by the judging panel, will be invited to the final, there is only one winner in each category.
- We reserve the right to move your nomination to another category.
- Your nomination wording may be used in social media, on YorkMix.com, YorkMix Radio, the awards programme and in the awards ceremony.
- Nominations received for previous winners of the same category will not be valid.
