Taskmaster star to headline fundraising Fringe comedy night

York Comedy Society are hosting an evening of stand up – to help send the University of York’s premier sketch troupe, The Dead Ducks, to the Edinburgh Fringe.

The fundraising night will be headlined by comedian Stevie Martin. It will be held at Micklegate Social in York on Wednesday 8 July.

Stevie has recently starred in the 19th series of Taskmaster, and wrote and co-starred in the Channel 4 sketch series Mitchel and Webb Are Not Helping.

She has recently been on tour with her critically acclaimed show clout, selling out both her 2023 and 2024 Edinburgh Fringe runs, alongside her 57-date tour.

Joining Stevie will be both student comics and alumni of the society: Freddy Russell, Joe Alec, Corin Bertrand, William Kirk, Pip White, James Perham, with MC Izzy Murtagh.

Alongside the comedy will be a raffle.

“Many comedians’ first experience of the Edinburgh Fringe is with their university comedy societies,” said James Perham, outgoing President for the University of York Comedy Society and Edinburgh co-producer.

“It gives them the opportunity to develop their own show for the world’s largest arts festival. Taking a show to the Fringe has become significantly more expensive and last year we were unable to send The Dead Ducks.

“This year we’re aiming to rectify this and give the next generation of comedians this invaluable opportunity.”

Tickets are £10 for the general public and available here.
