A new hat, gift and tailoring shop has opening in York.
We reported last month that 3 Low Ousegate was getting ready to open as something new – and it has now opened its doors to offer the people of York a variety of stylish headwear, and a personal and professional sewing and clothing alteration service.
It has opened as York Vintage Hat and SmartFit Alterations.

The Georgian Grade II listed building was previously home to the Notting Hill Jacket shop, which stocked reversible patterned quilted jackets and run by brothers Ehsanullah and Nangialai Takanai, but it closed back in March.
Inside, the spacious shop is filled to the brim with hats of all shapes, sizes and pattens – from baseball caps, cowboy hats, fedoras, bowler hats, bucket hats, Panama hats, and more.
There is also other accessories in stock too, such as tote bags, scarfs and ties – as well as a range of UK-themed gifts and souvenirs.
The highlight of York Vintage Hat though, is the bespoke tailoring service it offers. Located at the back of the shop, the surprisingly big space opens out into a workshop with an array of threads, zips, machines, and fitting room area.

SmartFit Alterations describes itself as a ‘family business providing quality clothes alterations for York and surrounding areas’.
With over 20 years’ experience, Nasir is a master tailor who is passionate about his craft and encourages anyone to come in if they need any alterations.
As well as alterations on garments like trousers, shirts, skirts, dresses, jackets, the service also offers curtain alterations, zip replacements, leather repair, and alterations for wedding or bridesmaid dresses, and school uniforms.
It can provide both a same-day service and a 1-hour service, dependent on tailoring required, and services start from £12.
The shop is open five days a week, and closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
