Speed restriction on the East Coast Main Line at Tollerton due to heat

Two 20mph speed restrictions have been imposed on trains using the main line between Newcastle, York and London due to the hot weather.

LNER says there is one at Tollerton, between Northallerton and York and another further south at St Neots.

Network Rail has just completed a weekend of track work at Tollerton which led to passengers having to take replacement bus services over the Bank Holiday.

Both restrictions are on 125mph sections of the route so there will be a few minutes delay to southbound services.

Meanwhile after many complaints about over crowded trains with faulty air conditioning the MD at LNER, David Horne, has said:

“We’ve also decided to run fewer InterCity225 trains and more Azuma trains in service today as the Azuma trains have better air conditioning – there are some service alterations as a result, please check.”
