Skip lorry ‘swerved into oncoming traffic’ outside York Hospital

Police are appealing for witnesses after a lorry swerved onto the wrong side of the road near York Hospital.

The incident happened at about 10.30am on Saturday (24 February) on Wigginton Road.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “An Iveco van-style skip loader, carrying stacked skips, swerved onto the opposite side of the road into head-on traffic almost causing a collision.

“Thankfully, the driver of the silver Ford Transit van travelling in the opposite direction managed to take evasive action and complete an emergency stop to prevent a collision taking place.

“No injury was caused to the Ford Transit driver.”

Police are asking for witnesses.

“In particular, we are appealing for information about either of the vehicles described, any dashcam footage that may have been captured of the incident or if you were driving down Wigginton Road at the time to get in touch.”
