‘Shocking and violating’: Naked man approached woman on York footpath

A naked man approached a woman on a footpath next to a busy road in York.

It happened on the path between the A64 and Askham Bar park and ride near to the college playing fields at around 11.45am on Sunday 8 February.

The victim is receiving support from police.

The man is described as

  • about 5ft 7in tall
  • in his early to mid-30s
  • with light stubble
  • and short, light brown hair.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “We’re appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the incident or saw the man to get in touch.

“We also urge anyone else who may have been approached in a similar way to get in touch.

“Indecent exposure is a serious crime with consequences.

“Sometimes called flashing, it’s when a suspect shows their genitals to a person to cause them to feel upset, scared or alarmed.

“It can be a shocking and violating experience and can have a long-lasting impact on victims and we take it very seriously.”
