Police activity was centred on Lindley Road.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said tonight: “A serious incident was reported to us at 5.50pm today (Saturday 10 January) at an address on Lindley Road in York.
“A woman has been taken to hospital with serious injuries, believed to have been caused by a knife.”
In an update shortly before 10pm, officers said a 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
During the search, people were being asked by police to stay out of the way “because we don’t want anyone else to get hurt”.
