Senior North Yorkshire Police officer to face gross misconduct charges

A senior officer in North Yorkshire Police faces two charges of gross misconduct.

Superintendent 1264 Andrew Berriman will be the centre of a hearing next month.

He is alleged to have breached standards of professional behaviours in relation to honesty and integrity, authority respect and courtesy, duties and responsibilities and discreditable conduct.

Supt Berriman is the head of specialist operations and learning and development and a tactical firearms commander, according to his LinkedIn profile.

There are two allegations:

  • Being a Superintendent with North Yorkshire Police, he failed to declare a conflict of interest when he agreed to be a grievance manager, for a grievance submitted by a Detective Chief Inspector.
  • Being a Superintendent with North Yorkshire Police, he told the above mentioned DCI, that he “had no allegiances with anyone in North Yorkshire Police” when this was dishonest and did not reflect the association with a (former) Deputy Chief Constable who had been named in the grievance.

It is alleged that the conduct, if proved, amounts to gross misconduct.

The hearing will be heard by Assistant Chief Officer Sarah Jackson between 3-6 March.
