Selby school forced to close after water is cut off

A problem with the water supply forced a Selby school to close for the day.

Households and businesses in the Ousegate area of the town reported having no or low water pressure from just after 10am today (Monday).

Yorkshire Water says the problem has now been fixed, although supplies may not be back to normal immediately.

At 11am, Barwic Parade Primary School on Petre Avenue reported: “School has no water due to a pipe being damaged in the local area.

“We have to close school for the health and safety of pupils and staff.

“Please come to school to collect your child as soon as you can please.”

By midday, all the pupils had been collected and the school was closed.

In an update, the school posted:”Our water supply keeps going on and off intermittently and our power supply may be affected too.

“We hope the burst pipe at High Ousegate gate is fixed soon and we’ll be back to normal tomorrow.”

At 1.27pm, Yorkshire Water posted: “Good news! The repair’s been done and supplies are back on.

“You may experience discoloured or cloudy water – this is nothing to worry about and will clear in time.”
