Post Office on wheels arrives in York

A temporary Post Office will open this week to serve people in Haxby and Wigginton.

The so-called as a ‘Post Office on wheels’ is a self-contained pop-up which has now arrived at Oaken Grove Community Centre.

It will open at 9am this Friday (3 October) offering residents a range of postal and banking services.

It comes after Haxby and Wigginton’s ward councillors and Haxby Town Council agreed to providing funding to Oaken Grove to allow it to host the temporary solution.

The temporary post office will be in place for up to six months, whilst efforts to find a permanent home for a Post Office in the centre of Haxby continue.

Liberal Democrat ward councillor Andrew Hollyer said: “Seeing the temporary Post Office arrive at Oaken Grove is a fantastic moment.

“From Friday, residents will once again have access to a wide range of services they’ve been missing since the closure of the old branch earlier this year.”
