Police have today (Monday) released more details about an incident which led them to close a road in Tadcaster at the weekend.
As YorkMix reported, Garnet Lane was shut for several hours on Sunday, with a number of police vehicles at the scene.
Initial reports suggested it was due to a crash on the road. But later that day, scenes of crime officers were seen to seal off an alleyway next to the road.
That’s because the police investigation has revealed this was not a road traffic collision after all.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Police were called to an incident in Garnet Lane, Tadcaster at around 5am on Sunday 11 February after a man was found in the road with a head and chest injury.
“Although it was first believed that he may have been involved in a collision with a vehicle, following a number of enquiries and initial medical reports, officers are now satisfied that he was not hit by a vehicle.
“An investigation is ongoing to establish how the man sustained his injuries.”
He is now receiving treatment in hospital.
Anyone who saw anything in the Garnet Lane area in the early hours of Sunday morning, or has any information that has not already been passed onto the police, is asked to call 101 and pass information to the Force Control Room.
The incident number is 12240025597.
