Updated: Sudden death on Coney Street in York

A police investigation is underway after a sudden death on Coney Street in York.

Officers were called at midday today (Monday) to a report of the sudden death of a man on the busy shopping street.

Three police vans and an ambulance responder were this afternoon parked outside Waterstones and St Martin-le-Grand Church.

An alleyway next to the Smiggle stationery store has been cordoned off with police tape.

A Crime Scenes Investigation officer has been seen working at the bottom of the alleyway.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called at 12pm today to a report of the sudden death of man outside a property on Coney Street, York.

“He has not yet formally been identified.

“Enquiries are at an early stage, and are ongoing, although at this time there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.”
