Police hunt for two arsonists who started large fire south of York

Police are hunting for two arsonists who started a large fire near York.

Two offenders are believed to have set fire to hay bales next to York Road, Skipwith, at around 4.10pm on Monday (11 September).

The blaze prompted a warning from York firefighters about drifting smoke.

They put out the fire, which destroyed the 150 hay bales.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Officers are keen to speak with anyone who either saw anything suspicious in the area around the time of the offence or who believes they may know those involved.

“We would also like to trace the owners of a dark coloured Ford Fiesta which was seen in the area around the time the offence occurred.

“If this was you or if you have any further details on this car, please contact us with information.”
