Police closed off part of Castlegate in Malton between the rail crossing and the town centre this morning while responding to reports of a violent incident at an address in the area.
They arrested a man on suspicion of a public order offence and he is currently in custody
Drivers and pedestrians were turned away from crossing County Bridge and a road block was in place at the junction with Yorkersgate and Wheelgate .
Local resident Anna Reagan described seeing a police officer between the crossing and the bridge turning traffic back earlier this morning. Other residents said they had seen armed officers on the streets.
All routes are open now
A Police spokesperson said:
“We temporarily closed parts of the area to ensure there was no wider risk to the public and the incident could be brought to a safe conclusion.Thanks for your patience and understanding.”
