Police chase stolen car through York – Man arrested

Police have arrested a man after chasing a car reported stolen through York early today (Thursday).

Officers in York saw a car driving without headlights in the early hours of this morning and attempted to pull the vehicle over.

The driver failed to stop and police set off in pursuit.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Enquiries revealed that the car was reported stolen.

“Following a pursuit, the suspect was arrested in the Hull Road area.”

The arrested man is aged in his 20s and from York.

He has been arrested on suspicion of

  • theft of a motor vehicle
  • failing to stop for police
  • possession of a class-B drug
  • using a fraudulent number plate
  • and driving without an appropriate license or insurance.

He remains in police custody as enquiries continue.
