Skeldergate Bridge was closed for a time this afternoon, after reports of a person falling into the water.
Fire crews from York, Acomb, Selby and Malton crews responded to a call of a person in the river Ouse at 4:16pm today.
It is believed the person fell in and then clung to a platform until help arrived.
York Rescue boat rescued person and they were left in the care of Ambulance crews.
Skeldergate Bridge reopened shortly afterwards.
