Parents want answers over upgrades to two York schools hit by the collapse of a building firm, a councillor has said.
The redevelopment of Hempland and Tang Hall Primary Schools were both in the hands of construction company ISG.
It collapsed into administration last week, and most of its 2,400 employees have been made redundant.
Work was already underway to construct a two-storey building at Hempland Primary School on Whitby Avenue.
That work has now come to a halt.
ISG Construction was also appointed the contractor for a new building planned for Tang Hall Primary School.
After it went bust, reports suggested that it owed £700 million to creditors which won’t now be paid.
Cllr Nigel Ayre, leader of the York Liberal Democrat Group, said: “This is an extremely worrying development.

“We want to express concern for the thousands of employees who have lost their jobs over night and those further down the supply chain whose jobs will now be under threat.
“It is specifically worrying in York as two schools were set to be rebuilt by ISG.
“Parents and residents will need urgent answers as to what the future of these two schools will be now that the original constructor no longer exists.
“We hope that this will just be a case of finding a new constructor and that urgent help is being given to these two schools to ensure that any delay can be managed.
“We are also asking for clarity on how much money has already been paid to ISG and what the financial implications on the rebuilding projects are.”
A spokesperson for Pathfinder Multi Academy Trust, which runs Hempland Primary School, said last week: “We are aware of the announcement that ISG has filed notices to enter into administration and we share the disappointment of all those involved to hear this news.
“Our thoughts go out to the staff who were employed on our project. The team had very much become a part of our school community during their time on site.
“We are in close contact with the Department for Education, who are managing the project, and are working with them to seek a solution.”
