North Yorkshire police officers ‘ambushed by a ferret’

This young fellow handed himself in to police last night (Friday).

The ferret “jumped into a police van and refused to leave” while officers were on patrol in Barkston Ash, south of Tadcaster.

They described the intruder as “a tiny noodle‑shaped extrovert”.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “The ferret is ‘very sociable’ and was ‘keen to help with patrols’, though officers admitted they were more interested in exploring the rest room at the police station.

“The ferret, now named Frankie, is safe and been cared for by Wicstun Veterinary Hospital who very kindly offered to look after Frankie until the owner can be found.

“If you have lost a ferret in the Sherburn area please contact Wicstun Vets in Market Weighton.”

The owner of the ferret later came forward and the two have now been reunited.
