A York riverside restaurant has a new executive chef – that’s bringing a Mediterranean twist to Yorkshire classics.
Gavin Swift has been appointed was executive chef at Bosun’s Restaurant, located at The Riverfront York in Bishopthorpe on the banks of the River Ouse.
Most recently, Gavin was Chef Patron at The Grantley Arms, and previously had spent several years at the prestigious Grantley Hall in Ripon.
Now, he will bring his expertise and passion for Yorkshire produce with inspiration from his travels to the Mediterranean to Bosun’s Restaurant.

It’s the latest in exciting news for Bosun’s – who last August were awarded two AA Rosettes in recognition for its culinary excellence and won the Visit York Taste of England Award this March.
Gavin explained to YorkMix that people can expect “fresh, interesting, exciting food that’s not been messed about with. We use ingredients that we’ve respected and looked after.
“I try to always make use of the whole animal and respect that it has had a life.”
The food is “Yorkshire with a Spanish-Mediterranean twist to it.
“People in here for the first time should expect a laid-back, relaxed atmosphere and some really nice approachable cooking.”

Some highlights for the new menu include Yorkshire Asparagus, with Jamon Iberico, and poached egg (£18), pan roast scallops, with French peas, gremolata and chicken jus (£20), Yorkshire coast fish & chips, with curry sauce and mushy peas (£22), lamb rump with Yorkshire asparagus, lamb rib, pea puree, and wild garlic jus (£31), and Baked Alaska (£12).
