Yorkshire Wildlife Trust has teamed up with Brew York to create a new beer to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the nature conservation charity.
Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, which has its headquarters in York, was founded in 1946, and is one of 46 county-based Wildlife Trusts and is the second oldest in the UK.
Restoring nature and protecting habitats from Dales to coast, they manage 116 nature reserves, including their first at York’s Askham Bog – serving as inspiration for the beer’s name Hare of the Bog.

Lauren Perthen, interim director of fundraising and engagement at Yorkshire Wildlife Trust contacted the York-based brewery to discuss the collaboration earlier this year.
“Hare of the Bog lands at an exciting time for us as the Trust celebrates its 80th anniversary and shines a spotlight on our first nature reserve, Askham Bog, which is reopening to the public following months of renovation work,” said Lauren.
“Brew York has been an exceptional partner, combining their creativity with a shared passion for Yorkshire’s natural environment to create a unique beer that celebrates our local wildlife and one of the very special places we work hard to protect. It’s a fitting way to mark this milestone, and I hope people all across the county will join us in raising a toast to another 80 years of driving nature’s recovery in Yorkshire.”
Brew York, who celebrated their tenth birthday in April of this year, welcomed the collaboration, and have brewed a 4.5% hazy IPA at their Osbaldwick site.
Andrew Stark, head of marketing at Brew York said: “We’re a York-born company ourselves and it’s an absolute pleasure to work with, and support, this iconic organisation. They do an outstanding amount of incredible work protecting vital ecological assets such as Askham Bog and other nature reserves which I’ve personally benefitted from and enjoyed over the years.
“Hare of the Bog is a fitting way to celebrate 80 years.”
Hare of the Bog was first shared with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust employees and volunteers at their 80th anniversary celebration last week, and will be available in Brew York’s online store and at select venues too.
