Neighbour steps in after fire breaks out in York home

A neighbour stepped in to put out a fire in York last night (Friday).

It happened on Margaret Street, off Walmgate, at 8.47pm.

A tea towel had caught fire after being left on an electric hob in a home on the street.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A neighbour had come into the affected property after smelling burning and extinguished the tea towel in a washing up bowl for the occupant.

“There was fire damage to the tea towel only and crews carried out a thermal inspection to check for no other hotspots using a thermal imaging camera. Advice was given to the occupant.”
