More than £11k of illegal goods seized in Market Weighton

Police and trading standards officers have seized illegal goods worth £11,000 in Market Weighton.

They carried out joint visits at two businesses in the town last Thursday (11 June). Details have just been released.

Searching a car linked to one of the shops, they found and seized around 4.3kg of suspected illicit rolling tobacco, valued at about £10,000, and around 5,500 illicit cigarettes, valued at approximately £1,750.

A Humberside Police spokesperson said: “Any counterfeit products, including vapes, can be highly dangerous as they are not subject to the rigorous safety standards required for goods sold legally.

“Not only is there a real health risk to individuals who smoke counterfeit products, but the sale of these items can also be used to fund more serious criminality, including organised cross border crime.”

They said anyone with information or concerns about counterfeit tobacco or vapes in their community should report it on 101.
