More street art is coming to Acomb – Have your say!

The team that created the Front Street mural in Acomb is bringing more street art to the area – and they need your creative input!

York-based Art Of Protest wowed residents with their artwork Return Of The Oaks, unveiled last March.

This year they will create eight new murals and art installations in Acomb, and you can help shape their design.

Art Of Protest is hosting free street art workshops on 22 and 24 January:

  • 22 January – Acomb Explore Library: 5.30pm-6.30pm
  • 22 January – Acomb Explore Library: 6:30pm-7:30pm
  • 24 January – Gateway Centre: 3pm-4pm

You can book a place here.

Go along and you can make your own piece of art, provide your ideas, hear about the creative community arts festival and ask questions.

Art Of Protest are also booked in with six schools to meet with children and young people to get their input on the new art.

It comes after the team won funding from David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire to stage the first Acomb Arts Festival this summer.

The event, running from 3-5 July, aims to transform Acomb Front Street into an open-air gallery and event centre.

Four community art installations will be delivered in the run up to the festival.

Among the programme of events will be live muralism with internationally renowned artists, as well as showcasing local businesses, groups and activities.

More than ten venues have already confirmed and 80-plus creatives and artists are signed up. There is still space for creatives to get involved – get in touch via [email protected]
