Man who stabbed and nearly killed a teenager in York is jailed

A man who stabbed a teenager in York is now behind bars.

Philip Noble, 45, stabbed the victim in the thigh, cutting open an artery, on Baker Street on the evening of 5 June 2025.

The 17-year-old victim was taken to hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. He later told officers he thought he was going to die.

Following an investigation by North Yorkshire Police, Noble was named as a suspect.

CCTV showed him cycling away from the scene, and he was positively identified by the victim during a video identification parade procedure.

Noble, from York, was arrested, and made no comment in interview.

But at York Crown Court this week, he pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm and possession of a knife in a public place.

He was sentenced to 52 months in jail.

DC James Dykes, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “The consequences of knife crime can be devastating – inevitably resulting in serious injury or even worse.

“Rates of knife crime are low in our area, but we will not be complacent.

“If you carry or use a knife to inflict violence, you should expect to be arrested by the police and put before the courts.”
