A man in his 80s is in hospital after a fire destroyed his home early today (Wednesday).
Fire crews from Whitby, Lythe, Danby and Goathland responded to reports of a fire at Egton Bridge, Whitby at 12.40am.
The fire began in a vehicle in a lean-to and spread to the property.

One man aged in his 80s was taken to hospital suffering from suspected smoke inhalation.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The fire caused 100% fire damage to the entire property.
“Crews used four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, four 45mm jets, a ceiling hook, a thermal imaging camera and lighting.”
