Malton Hospital fire: Investigations continue as site starts to reopen

Part of the Malton Hospital site has reopened today as investigations into the fire continue.

Malton Urgent Treatment Centre has now reopened and patients can attend as normal.

York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “Work continues to restore services at the main hospital following this week’s fire.

“While the main hospital remains temporarily closed, our priority is to reopen and resume services as soon as it is safe to do so.

“If you have an appointment at Malton Hospital, please do not attend unless you have been contacted and advised to do so. Our teams are reviewing all affected appointments and will contact patients directly to rearrange appointments or discuss the next steps.”

Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust provides care on Fitzwilliam Ward at the hospital. The hospital site is managed by York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The Humber NHS Trust said: “The safety of our patients, visitors and colleagues remains our absolute priority. We would like to thank our staff, the emergency services and partner organisations for their swift response and support.

“We would like to extend our thanks to the staff at Malton School for supporting the evacuation and providing immediate assistance.”

The huge blaze consumed the Springwood unit on the hospital site on Wednesday. Dozens of firefighters spent several hours putting out the flames.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service say investigations into the cause are continuing.
