Major projects in York and Selby pitched to investors

York and North Yorkshire are being sold on the national stage this week.

The area’s leaders headed to the UK’s biggest real estate conference to pitch the region to investors – with York Central firmly at the heart of the offer.

The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority made its debut at the UK’s Real Estate Investment and Infrastructure Forum (UKREiiF) in Leeds today (Tuesday), unveiling an Investment Pitchbook setting out the region’s biggest opportunities for developers and investors.

York Central is one of the key propositions.

Described as one of the most significant regeneration projects anywhere in the country, the development on the doorstep of York Station promises thousands of new homes, jobs and green spaces.

Mayor David Skaith, who launched the pitchbook alongside council leaders, said the timing couldn’t be better.

“With major projects like York Central moving into delivery, there has never been a better time to invest in York and North Yorkshire,” he said. “Our plans put our people at their heart and make it easier for investors, innovators and ideas to come forward with confidence.”

Leader of City of York Council Cllr Claire Douglas said: “In 2025 York topped the Good Growth for Cities Index and is considered one of the best places to live.

“York Central is a transformational development, and York is a hugely ambitious city that is open for business.”

Another key project being pushed is Konect62, a major logistics and industrial scheme in Knottingley in the Selby district .

She pointed to a small business survival rate 25% above the national average and a world-class science base as reasons for confidence.

Chair of York and North Yorkshire’s business board Jennifer Wood said: “From the scale of Konect62 in Selby to the urban transformation of York Central, we have the projects and the confidence to drive growth for years to come.”

More than 16,000 developers, investors and local authority figures are expected through the doors at UKREiiF across the week – making it a major opportunity for the region to land new investment.

Mayor Skaith is also planning to join fellow northern leaders on a trade mission to India later this year as part of a broader drive to boost international investment in the region.
