If you’re looking to start up your own business in York – this free and fully funded creative academy could be for you.
Following the successful launch of the programme in 2024, The Creative Business Skills Academy returns in 2026 with 12 fully funded places for creative founders and small business owners across York and North Yorkshire.
Delivered by Aesthetica in partnership with York Business School at York St John University, the 12-week in-person Academy is designed to equip creative entrepreneurs with the practical skills, frameworks and networks needed to start, grow and scale sustainable businesses.
The Academy runs from 6 May – 29 July 2026, taking place on Wednesdays from 6-9pm. It is free to attend and includes a series of workshops and masterclasses specifically aimed at start-ups.
Each week includes:
- One workshop (1.5 hours)
- One masterclass (1 hour)
- 30 minutes of networking and peer connection
The Creative Business Skills Academy will offer start-ups a progression route into the creative industries and support entrepreneurial skills. If you are looking to launch a business in any of the following areas: architecture, film, fine art, gaming, XR, textiles, fashion and more – they want to hear from you!

York is 1 of 27 cities in the world to hold a UNESCO City of Media Arts designation.
