International brand planning to open new shop on York’s Coney Street

A global brand is set to open a store in the heart of York.

Plans are in for a change at number 40 Coney Street.

It was last home to the Luxe Company, and is found next to Sports Direct.

Now Miniso wants to open a store in the unit.

Miniso is a Chinese company with more than 8,000 shops trading in 110 countries around the world.

It specialises in household and consumer goods including cosmetics, stationery, toys, and kitchenware.

The company website says: “Whether you’re exploring our aisles filled with cute plush toys, browsing through our vibrant accessories, or discovering the latest collaborations with iconic brands like Sanrio, Disney, Pokémon, Care Bears, We Bare Bears, and more, there’s never a dull moment at Miniso.”

Plans have been lodged with City of York Council to display new signage on number 40.

The shop sign will be written in white letters on its red bag logo.

Miniso opened its first store in Guangzhou, China in 2013, near its factory.

Its first store in the UK, in Ealing, London, opened six years later. The nearest to us at the moment is in the Trinity Centre in Leeds.

There is no word on when the York shop might open.

Its predecessor at 40 Coney Street, The Luxe Company, closed suddenly a year ago.

It opened in 2022 over three storeys in what was the former Wallis store.
