House fire in central York put out by firefighters

Two fire crews responded to reports of a house fire in York today (Monday).

Firefighters from Acomb and York went to the incident, described as being in the centre of the city, at 11.06am.

The fire was caused by packaging left on a cooker hob. 

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A bucket of water was used to extinguish the fire. 

“The fire damaged kitchen units and smoke damage to the kitchen.”
