Home evacuated due to fire in North Yorkshire village

Residents had to leave their home due to a fire last night.

Crews from Selby, Tadcaster and West Yorkshire were called to the incident on Chapel Street, Hillam, near Selby, at 10.18pm.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Both occupants were contacted by control room staff and advised to leave the property after the call was originally received via an alarm company reporting the resident had seen smoke inside their property.

“Crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and extinguished the fire that was confined to the bedroom only with a hose reel jet.

“A fire investigation will take place during daylight hours and the occupants were given advice.”
