‘High-end’ holiday development with spa planned near Selby

Plans to transform a touring caravan site near Selby into a holiday lodge development with bar, restaurant and spa have been drawn up.

A planning application has been submitted for Blackwood Hall Caravan Park, in North Duffield.

New owners of the site are seeking permission to redevelop the site to include static lodge-style caravans alongside new leisure facilities.

A planning and design statement submitted to North Yorkshire Council outlines ambitions to “evolve the site from its origins as a touring caravan site to a high-quality static caravan site inclusive of on-site facilities for guests” .

Supporting documents state: “There is potential to re-organise/adapt the existing touring permission and adapt it into a high-end static lodge style operation.

“A significant benefit of this would be a reduction in traffic generation linked to the existing permissions

“The introduction of some sensitively designed facilities will generate an income for the local economy.

“Touring caravan pitches would be replaced by high-end static lodges.”

The application proposes 61 static lodges plus one warden’s unit, which is less than the 77 touring pitches currently approved.

This full planning application also proposes some on-site guest facilities comprising a pub/restaurant and spa building.

Planning consultants Edwardson Associates, acting on behalf of the applicant, say the scheme is designed to improve the overall quality of the site while supporting tourism and the rural economy.

They also highlight the potential for job creation, with the addition of hospitality and leisure facilities expected to generate employment opportunities once operational.
