One of this country’s greatest footballers has been introduced to its finest fish and chips!
Sporting and TV star Gary Lineker enjoyed a meal at a York fish and chip shop on Saturday.
The former England striker called in at The Scrap Box for one of each at lunchtime.
He tucked into cod and chips with tartar sauce at the venue, on found on the A1079 at Dunnington.
Run by Aman Dhesi and his brother Gavin, The Scrap Box was named Fish And Chip Takeaway Of The Year in the National Fish And Chip Awards last month.
On his way to see Sunderland beat Newcastle United at the Stadium Of Light yesterday, Gary wanted to try the best!
Aman told YorkMix: “It was great meeting Gary – he loved his fish and chips even after having a full breakfast!

“They were staying in Yorkshire and had come up to watch the Tyne-Weir derby – and he’d been told to come visit the nation’s best chippie!
“Gary is a big cricket fan so I was telling him about the history of cricket in this area.”
As well as being the former host of Match Of The Day and continuing to anchor other sporting broadcasts, Gary is the co-founder of Goalhanger, a leading podcast producer.
It’s series include The Rest Is History, The Rest Is Entertainment, and Gary’s own show The Rest Is Football.
Aman said: “I’m also a huge fan of the Goalhanger podcasts and I told him I was listening to The Rest Is Football that morning when I was filleting his fish!”
