One of York’s newest gyms is holding an open day this weekend – with free workouts, live DJ sets, refreshments and more.
XFIT in Acomb, York, are having an open day tomorrow (Saturday 28 March) 10am to 4pm, where guests can have a full look around the gym, enjoy a workout for free, and chat with the team.
The gym opened in Acomb at the start of this year by Stacey and Simon Wright, and the feedback so far has all been ‘extremely positive’. The venue on York Road, Acomb, was previously home to an X Martial Arts School.
X Martial Arts Schools was founded by Luke Burks, with five locations across Yorkshire: York, Wakefield, Malton, Sheffield and Leeds.
Stacey and Simon, along with their two children, have been members of the X Martial Arts Schools in York for 11 years.
The York location in Acomb moved to Nether Poppleton in May last year, leaving the premises empty – so Stacey and Simon partnered with Luke to co-own XFIT.
“We’ve always loved the strong community we have, and we’re really excited for the opportunity to replicate that with our own business venture with Luke,” Stacey told YorkMix.
XFIT was created to offer ‘something different’ to the typical gym experience, with a focus on a premium, welcoming, comfortable environment that never feels overcrowded – which is achieved through a capped membership model.
“Having capped membership means we can ensure an extremely high standard of cleanliness of not only the equipment but our facilities too.
“A lot of people have said it’s helped them feel more confident getting back into the gym, which is exactly what we set out to do.”
The open day will also include a live DJ set and complimentary refreshments.
“XFIT was built to bring the high standards of customer service we’re known for at X Martial Arts Schools into the gym environment.
“As regular gym-goers ourselves, we felt this was something missing from larger commercial gyms, where it’s easy to feel like just a number.
“We live in the area so are very passionate about Acomb with all of the fantastic businesses on the highstreet, and we’re excited to be part of its continued growth.
“We’re also extremely passionate about changing lives and creating a community of like minded people. We’re really excited to welcome everyone on Saturday to enjoy the space we’ve worked really hard to create.”
