Police spotted a water leak in a city centre building in the early hours of this morning (Saturday).
They called in York firefighters to help on High Petergate at 1.43am.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The crew gained entry to the premises via a first floor window and isolated the leak.
“Crews used a triple extension ladder and small tools.”
