Firefighters tackle horsebox blaze on York ring road

Firefighters tackled a horsebox fire which closed the York ring road last night (Tuesday).

It happened on the A1237 near the Haxby roundabout at 6.27pm.

As YorkMix reported, a stretch of the road was closed while the incident was ongoing.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from York and Acomb responded to multiple reports of a small vehicle and horsebox both well alight.

“Vehicle occupants and two horses were out on arrival of the fire crews. Crews used two hose reel jets and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the vehicle fires and dampen down the area.

“An environment pack was also used to to prevent oil from vehicles entering drains.

“Crews used a thermal imaging camera to monitor the temperature of one of the vehicles. The scene was then left with police.”
