Firefighters tackle hazardous incident after business near York evacuated

A business in a York village was evacuated today (Thursday) after a fuel leak.

Acomb and York firefighters went to the incident in Huby at 8.40am.

Kerosene oil was leaking from a heating tank at the premises.

A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews used protective respiratory masks and protective personal equipment to stem the leak using dammit paste.

“They then used a gas detector to assess the rest of the premises, no hazards identified. Crews remained on scene decanting oil and waiting for a heating engineer to arrive.”
